Developmental Edit

The most in-depth form of a content edit, addressing the complete work, from language and line, to voice, characters, and plot arc.  At the conclusion of this edit, you will have the tools to revise and send your book to literary agents or format for self-publication.  Includes:

  • 30-minute skype or phone session before beginning edits.
    Note: I like to use this time to hear about who you are, your vision for the manuscript, the background behind what called you to write your book, and where you would like for your book to sit on shelves. I like to have these conversations in advance of beginning my edits as it helps me to better edit the manuscript according to who you are as a writer and communicate proposed revisions that are organic to your vision.

Line Edit/Proofread

A detailed copyedit, focused on addressing spelling, grammar, style, and consistency within the manuscript. Includes:

  • An in-depth line edit throughout the manuscript, recording all edits via track changes (plus any queries in margin comments). 
  • A 45-minute consultation post review of the manuscript to answer any question and discuss proposed changes.

Cost: $0.015 a word (i.e. a 75K manuscript would cost $1,125 / £950)

Query Letter

A review of your complete query letter, synopsis, and sample, offering in-document suggestions/revisions regarding improving hook, platform, and strength of sample (sample review includes in-document line edits). Also includes a 30-minute consultation post your review of my tracked changes, to discuss next steps/provide advice about submitting to agents/publishers.

Cost: $100 / £85 for all three, $45 / £38 per query letter, synopsis, or sample.

Picture Book Editing

This is an edit of your strongest picture book manuscript and will provide you with valuable feedback about your plot, characters, illustration potential, voice, and more. Query letter editing is included, as well as feedback on up to three more paragraph-length pitches for future ideas, if you have them.

Today’s picture book writers need a really strong grasp of the form as well as many saleable ideas that will attract the eye of an editor or agent. Most agents will not sign up a picture book creator unless they have at least three truly stellar projects. This edit will help you refine your craft and, more importantly, your thinking about writing for this very specific audience. Short picture books (under 300 words) cost $299. Manuscripts between 300 and 600 words cost $399. Longer picture books (between 600 and 1,200 words) are $499. Manuscripts longer than 1,200 words are billed as an early reader or chapter book.

Marketing Coaching, or “How to Build Buzz for Your Book Post-Publication”

Preparing a targeted self-guided marketing plan for your book, including web-savvy ad copy, sparkling and engaging social media copy, and guidance regarding how to secure publicity and diverse promotional opportunities for your book. I will break down exactly what you need to do to target and direct as many readers as possible to the sales pages for your book. 

  • A 30-minute consultation prior to reading your book to target and discuss your goals for self-promotion.
  • A full marketing plan upon reading your completed manuscript. Will include bullet points with a step-by-step action plan for marketing your book within the following areas: prepublication, advertising (online and print), publicity (online and in stores), social media, and school & libraries.
  • A separate calendar of suggested social media posts and ideas for posted images to build buzz for your book before publication, during your book’s publication week, and after publication.
  • Guidance regarding how to submit your book for reviews by select trade publications.
  • An hour-long consultation post receipt of your marketing plan and supplementary material to discuss all in depth and answer any questions.

Cost: $765 / £650
